Notion might seem difficult when you first start out, but I'm here to show you that it's really not.

When I build anything inside Notion, I follow this simple 5-step roadmap:

1) Inspiration

I search Pinterest, Google, or even the official Notion marketplace for ideas.

9/10 times, you don't even need to download or purchase a template because you can get all the inspiration you need from merely looking at pictures of a template layout.

2) Ideation

If I need further inspiration, I use ChatGPT to help me ideate sections and areas that would be helpful to include in the template.

3) Skeleton

Next thing I do is organize the databases of the template inside toggles. This helps me in 2 key ways:

a) it reduces overload from having a ton of databases all up in my face, mixed up in one page.
b) it helps me understand the layout of the template & how the databases should relate.
c) it allows me to keep original databases in 1 place, so I can use linked views everywhere else

4) Creation

Once I'm clear about what layout to build and how to build the databases through skeletonizing, I dedicate 4-hour deep work blocks to build the remaining things.

I've found that my maximum capacity for working on templates is 4 hours - after that, my brain gets foggy and I build dumb sh*t and waste time.

5) Learning

I always refer back to my Notion Bible handbook whenever I'm in need. If I can't find what I need in there, Google is my best friend.
